Lucky New Yorker Leaves Pizzeria with More Dough Than He Expected
One lucky New Yorker took home more dough than expected when they went for a pizza last night (Tues 21st Sept) when a ticket bought at the pizzeria landed them an almost half-billion dollar prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at Pronto Pizza on West 48th Street, Manhattan, and matched all six numbers in the 21st September Mega Millions draw: 36, 41, 45, 51 and 56, and the Mega Ball 13.
Doubtless more New Yorkers with an appetite for both pizza and a taste of lottery success will be queueing up at the restaurant hoping that some luck will rub off on them too.
The lucky winner will get to enjoy a Mega Millions jackpot of an estimated $432 million if they go for the annuity option, or a $315 million lump sum!
The annuity option reflects the value of the prize if invested over several decades and is paid in yearly instalments. The lump-sum is the amount currently in the jackpot prize pool paid in a single deposit.
The 21st September draw also saw some other big wins. With one player in Connecticut scooping a $1 million Match-5 second prize. Another 25 winners matched four white balls and the gold Mega Ball the net for themselves the $10,000 third prize. Six of those included the $1 Megaplier add-on, the Megaplier last night was 3X, tripling those six prizes to $30,000.
All these were among a grand total of 1,065,466 winning tickets in Tuesday’s draw.
The last Mega Millions jackpot to have been won was in Crestwood, Illinois on 8th June - a prize that remains unclaimed. Across the 30 draws of this run, more than 17.2 million tickets won prizes, with 30 of those landing the $1 million Match 5 prize or above.
