Illinois Player Nets Huge Mega Millions Jackpot
A lucky player in Illinois purchased a ticket for last night’s Mega Millions draw that matched all six numbers, netting them an incredible $56 million top prize.
This marks the second time that the jackpot has been won in under three weeks, following a massive $516 million win in Pennsylvania.
The winning Mega Millions ticket of last night was sold by Citgo Gas Station at 13830 South Pulaski in Crestwood, Illinois and matched all the numbers drawn in the 8th June draw. The white balls were 9, 22, 39, 41 and 54, the gold Mega Ball was 19.
The lucky winner will be able to choose between receiving the prize as a yearly annuity across decades or taking a single lump-sum payment of $38.7 million cash.
There were other big prizes won in last night’s draw, with two more tickets winning $1 million second-place prizes in Iowa and West Virginia.
There were 17 winners of the game’s $10,000 third prize, seven of whom included the $1 Megaplier add-on to scoop prizes now worth $30,000 after the 3X Megaplier in Tuesday’s draw.
In addition to the jackpot winner, a total of 405,765 tickets won prizes in the draw.
Tuesday marked the fourth Mega Millions jackpot to be won this year. The last was a $516 million jackpot won in Pennsylvania on 21st May, before that a couple in New York grabbed a $96 million prize on 16th February, but the first and biggest prize of the year was a jaw-dropping $1.050 billion jackpot won by a Michigan-based lottery syndicate on 22nd January.
